He was born Edgar Poe on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachuetts. His parents Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe and father David Poe Jr. were actor and actress. His family was abandoned by his father in 1810, and a year later his mother died. Poe was adopted by John Allan and his wife. They did not legalize the adoption but they named him Edgar Allan Poe anyways. He went to a grammar school and later on he studied at a boarding school in Chelsa, Scotland. Poe joined he military because he had no money, he was 18 at the time but lied and said he was 22 yrs. Old.
The legacy of Edgar Allan Poe will always be remembered. Poe was recognized as a literary critic. He was a writer of fiction. He was one of the first American authors of the 19th century to become more popular in Europe than in the United States. Poe had to deal with criticism just like any other writer. His writing reflects his literary theories, and also the death of his wife Virginia inspired some of his writing.
Edgar Allan Poe has written many books in his time. Some of them are
“The Black Cat”, “The Cask of Amontillado”, “A Descent into the Maelstrom”, “The Gold Bug”. There are many more Books that he wrote. His stories deal with his past life of anger and his pain.
